Leasing homes that were for local housing will bring tax benefits

In the State Budget for 2018 only one suspension of capital gains is foreseen. The Executive wants to go further, to “encourage homeowners” to favor housing rent at the expense of business activity around the temporary lease to tourists, since supply and prices are high in the first market.

The Government intends that owners who place rental properties that were intended for business activity are exempt from capital gains, according to Jornal de Negócios.

In this Tuesday’s edition, the morning will tell the houses used for local accommodation – those who provide temporary housing services to tourists for remuneration and that are then leased to permanent housing will be exempt from the payment of capital gains.

In the State Budget for 2018 only one suspension of capital gains is foreseen. However, a package of measures foreseen in the New Generation of Housing Policies will be publicly consulted within a few days, where this rule is covered, according to the information that was confirmed to the economy daily by the Secretary of State of the Housing, Ana Pinho.

The objective is to “encourage homeowners” to favor housing rent over business activity around the temporary lease to tourists, since supply and prices are high in the first market.
